Author’s Note:
be warned that this is a review of a work in progress version of the figure, all opinions, parses and negative comments do not reflect the final product. The final version of the figures will be released by the time the movie is released. So for now, enjoy this early review.
So? who saw the Super Bowl? mainly the commercials before kickoff. Yeah. You saw it. G.I. Joe is coming to theaters. And what that means to everyone is that there will be a new G.I. Joe toy line. Replacing the Modern/25th Line will be the Rise of Cobra line and I was able to obtain an early figure from it: The Baroness.
The Baroness and the figure itself is based on actress/Supermodel Sienna Miller, The likeness is sort of questionable at first glance, but when you get the figure at hand, the likeness sort of shines though with the small details on her face, some may argue that it looks more like Sarah Palin, or Mary McDonnell (personally, she looks more like Tina Fey) but rest assured, the final figure will be more accurate as revealed in Toyfare . Going further onto the body, the figure itself is pretty good on details by getting an accurate look at the costume she wears in the movie, it’s pretty much an all latex leather all over with some Bedazzled silver bits to it, making the costume seem very reminiscent to Kate Beckinsale’s costume from Underworld. The figure is surprisingly armed to the teeth, she comes with 2 “pulse” pistols, a Rocket Launcher, and a M.A.R.S. briefcase.
The missile launcher that she comes equip with is a tad oversize, leading me to believe that this thing won’t be in the final version of the toy, but it’s an interesting piece to say the least. According to the story of movie, this is a Nanomite bomb. If you saw the Super Bowl ad, it was the green cloud that ate up the Eiffel Tower. So that explains that whole bit, but damn thing is bigger than the figure itself! Hopefully in the final version, they will have something reasonable.
The Baroness figure also comes equipped with 2 “Pulse” guns that can be attached to the peg holes in her hips. Surprisingly, the guns are pretty accurate to the ones that can be seen in the promo pictures for movie. Not very realistic, but very cool and scaled down weapon to use.
the Briefcase? empty. I’m sure by the time it’s out it will be filled up with something, but alas, it is empty. For a while I thought the briefcase was the same one that would come from the 25th Silver masked Destro, but it isn’t.
The overall construction of the figure is solid. the original 25th Baroness had some major issues with it’s sculpt and how it was pretty paper thin and spotty on the legs, this one seems to have fixed a lot of those leg issues and made it sturdier than it’s 25th Predecessor. But overall, it’s a nice retooling of the same figure, improving on what needed to be improved and using the same mold for the overall. As a side note, the figure itself is no more then a few Centimeters taller then the 25th version.
Final Verdict:
It seems unfair to judge something that isn’t complete, but progress wise, it’s a good figure with great sculpt and lots of interesting accessories. Time will only tell if we will see these changes happen, but for now it’s a solid figure.
